國際企業(International Business)在現今快速變動的國際環境中面對前所未見的不確定性。為了克服這種不確定性並成功的生存下來,多國籍企業必須在組織策略和執行面上具備更有彈性的能力 (Buckley and Casson, 1998)。因此,國際企業必須依賴動態能力,以面對國際擴張時不同階段的環境變動。由此觀點衍伸而來,Luo(2000)提出三種在國際營運活動中所需的動態能力構面,分別是「專屬能力」(capability possession)、「部署能力」(capability deployment)、和「更新能力」(capability upgrading)。Byrd & Turner (2000) 將資訊科技基礎建設(IT infrastructure)分為三個部分,也是本研究架構的三個基本構念,這些因素有整合性(integration),分別由IT的連結性(IT connectivity)和相容性(IT compatibility)來衡量;模組化(modularity),分別由應用軟體的功能性(application functionality)和資料的透通性(data transparency)來衡量;以及資訊人員的回應能力 (IT personnel responsiveness)分別由資訊人員的科技管理(technology management)能力、企業知識(business knowledge)、管理知識(management knowledge)、和技術知識(technical knowledge)來衡量。透過本研究架構建立的假說,以複回歸模型分析找出多國籍企業的資訊基礎建設和增強其動態能力間之關係。
針對129家台灣企業的問卷調查,實證結果顯示,資訊人員回應能力對於動態能力有正向的影響。資訊科技模組化的應用只對動態能力中的部署能力有正向相關。資訊科技整合性和動態能力之關係,則在本研究中並沒有顯著的關連。
International business encounter greater uncertainty generated by volatility in the international business environment than that they had never met before. To cope with volatility and to survive and succeed in today’s turbulent international environment, firms must keep flexible both on its organizational strategy and its operation (Buckley and Casson, 1998). Hence, international business depends largely on its dynamic capabilities along different stages of international expansion. Derived from a capability perspective, Luo (2000) identified three dimensions of dynamic capability in international operations: capability possession, capability deployment, and capability upgrading. Byrd & Turner (2000) categorized IT infrastructure into three parts, which are the basic constructs to build our framework. These factors include integration (measured by IT connectivity and IT compatibility), modularity (measured by application functionality and data transparency), and IT personnel responsiveness (measured by technology management, business knowledge, management knowledge, and technical knowledge). In order to search for business excellence in a turbulent environment, this research intends to find out the relationship between enhancement of dynamic capability (possession, deployment, and upgrading) and information technology infrastructure (integration, modularity, and personnel responsiveness) of international business. The hypotheses based on our framework are then tested in a multiple regression model.
Survey results of 129 Taiwanese sample firms indicate that IT personnel responsiveness has a positive impact on dynamic capabilities, and IT modularity also has positive effect to capability deployment. However, IT integration did not explain significantly impact to dynamic capabilities.
