梅雨季期間的降雨為台灣地區降水主要來源之一，梅雨滯留鋒面所挾帶的持續性降水及豪大雨，常常帶來豐沛的雨量，但也易造成災害。所以若能對於梅雨期雨季的持續性降水及豪大雨有較好的預報能力，則能對台灣的水利資源有更好的掌握，也能減少損害。
