Synthese and coordination chemistry of porphyrin analogues have attracted considerable attention due to the recent discovering of their unusual chemistry. One of the porphyrin analogues families, N-confused porphyrin(NCP)has an inverted pyrrole ring jointed to the porphyrinic conjugated system through a β-carbon to exhibit peripheral pyrrolic nitrogen and an inner core carbon. The NCP metal complexes, FeII(NCTPP)Br (1)、FeII(NCTPP)(S-C7H7) (2)、MnII(NCTPP)Br (4)、MnII (NCTPP)Cl (5) and MnII(NCTPP)(S-C7H7) (6) exhibit non-planar porphyrin ring geometry with an inner core C-H and a tilted inverted pyrrole ring. In the complex (1)、(4) and (5), the relatively short distances between iron and inner core C-H hydrogen suggest that an agostic interaction between the metal and inverted pyrrolic C-H bond is likely. The axial ligand dependent core geometries are controlled by the basicity of ligands consistent with having an agostic interaction. When complex (1) and (5)exposed to air, M(II) is oxidized to M(III). Metal oxidation promotes the activation of the inverted pyrrolic C-H bond and change the N-confused porphyrin conformation to a planar porphyrin ring to form FeIII(NCTPP)Br (3) and MnIII(NCTPP)Br (7). The treating of complex (5) with AgClO4 under anaerobic condition also forms a planar MnIII(NCTPP)ClO4 (8), and suggests this reaction has different mechanism from complex (3) and (7). However, the detailed mechanism requires further study.
In addition to mononuclear complexes, binuclear iron NCP [Fe(NCTPP)]2(9) was obtained from the anaerobic reaction of complex (1) with NaSePh. The complex demonstrates the coordinating ability of peripheral nitrogen on the inverted pyrrole ring. While under aerobic condition, [Fe(ONCTPP)]2(OH)•Na(THF)2 (10) was obtained. It is a hydroxo bridged iron dimmer with a Na bridged on the outer-N and an oxygenation was occurred on the inner core pyrrolic nitrogen to form a novel ONCTPP porphyrinic ring. Besides, planar and six-coordinate Fe(NCTPP)Py2 (11)、Fe(NCTPP)(1-MeIm)2 (12)、Mn(NCTPP)(THF)2 (13), Co(NCTPP)Py2 (15), four-coordinate Co(NCTPP) (14) and five-coordinate Co(NCTPP) (THF) (16) have also been synthesized and characterized.
