An exploration the effects of resilience behavior on suicidal ideation adolescence

Abstract
The purport of this study is to understand how adolescence, who used to have suicidal ideation, make use of intrinsic protective mechanisms to resist harm from the stress situations in the process of interaction with the environment, and develop the positive resilience to protect themselves from committing suicide. The qualitative research method was adopted in this study. Two persons, who used to have strong suicidal ideation but not now, were deeply interviewed in order to realize their resilience experience. The research results are as follows:
1.From the two interviewees, we can find that the existence and function of the following resilience are effective, the “mood adjustability”, the “interpersonal support establishment”, the “positive concept of the death”, ”cognitive thinking ability”, the “future-goal orientation and self-positive expectation”, the “influence of personal characteristics”.
2.The “mood adjustability” would make the person get remission and expression
from the negative mood, and lessen the danger that might caused. The “interpersonal support establishment”, such as the significant others’ relationship support and interpersonal support network establishment, would provide the person the affection support and attachment, and therefore, the positive resilience will come into existence as a result. The “positive concept of death” would stem the person’s thought of committing suicide to escape reality, but to accept the reality and challenge the difficulty. The “cognitive thinking ability”, such as the positive belief, problem-solving ability, and so on, would lead the person to think from different view of points, and make him to take proper tactic to face the difficulty. The “future-goal orientation and self-positive expectation” would make the person form the sense of hope in his mind, and therefore, he would be willing to bear the frustration. For the “influence of personal characteristics”, the person would make good use of his personal characteristics. For example, the person would own a lot of interpersonal support and help for his broad-mindedness and sociability. Risk-taking personality would make the person to create new experience in his life. Gradually, the person will have resilience to feel the sense of existence and protect himself from the negative results for the function of those characteristics’ interaction with the environment.
