This study intends to analyze the effect of solution-focused counseling on the client resilience construction. The study is based on two clients who accept solution-focused counseling and that adopts the qualitative research approach. After scrutinizing the counseling drafts, I have obtained the following findings:
1. The timing and goal of using solution-focused counseling techniques during counseling process
The timing and goal of using “exception” is to induce the successful experience, to bring clients to perceive difference of change afterwards. The timing and goal of using “cheerleading” is to compliment clients on the change hence to strengthen clients’ behavior to transform. The timing and goal of using “hypothetical solution” is to invite clients to deliberate the different setting as the situation has been improved, or switch the action accountability back to clients. The timing and goal of using “goal setting” include establishing counseling goal, transforming the goal to each plausible step, or convert the negative goal into positive goal.
2.The resilience generated from clients during the counseling process
The resilience generated from clients during solution-focused counseling process includes: goal-reaching and the orientation of the future toward oneself, problem-resolving capability, superb social adaptability, viewpoint from different angle, willingness of self improvement, ability to express and manage emotion, ability to observe the optimistic side of life, self identification, ability to challenge the surroundings.
3. The effect of the solution-focused counseling toward clients resilience construction
The resilience induced from “exception” includes: superb social adaptability, ability to challenge surroundings, problem-resolving capability, goal-reaching and the orientation of the future toward oneself, self identification, ability to express and manage emotion, ability to observe the optimistic side of life. The resilience induced from “cheerleading” includes: self identification, ability to observe the optimistic side of life, willingness of self improvement, viewpoint from different angle, ability to express and manage emotion, ability to challenge surroundings, problem-resolving capability. The resilience induced from “hypothetical solution” includes: willingness of self improvement, problem-resolving capability, ability to express and manage emotion, goal-reaching and the orientation of the future toward oneself. The resilience induced from “goal setting “ includes: problem-resolving capability, goal-reaching and the orientation of the future toward oneself.
Discussion is based on the above results of the study and that provides suggestions for counselors and post-researchers.
