「即時系統」一般指具有特定功能的電腦系統,此種特定功能應用在生活中十分常見,舉凡所有與指揮控制有關的系統均可視為即時系統。即時系統在國防軍事上的運用更是密切,尤以國軍近年來強調的「指管通資情監偵系統」(Command、Control、Communication、Computer、Intelligence、Surveillance、Reconnaissance, C4ISR)為其一重要的整合呈現。以往即時系統的開發大多侷限在單一、封閉的作業環境中,由於現今網路的發達以及人力、設備等資源分散配置的現實地理特性,即時系統的開發面臨異質環境的挑戰。本文舉「電腦輔助快速雛型系統」(Computer-Aided Prototyping System, CAPS)為例,並應用「分散式運算物件」(Distributed Computing and Objects)中新近發展的JINI(Java for Intelligent Network Interface)技術及JavaSpaces服務模式來探討如何在繁複的分散式、異質網路環境中快速有效地開發建構即時系統的雛型。由此提供一套切合國軍現況需求,可自主、快速、有效建置各型C4ISR系統的方法。

We enhance the function of a software-building tool, called DCAPS (Distributed Computer-Aided Prototyping System), for real-time systems. Real-time systems have many special functions that include time critical constraints and control constraints.
Control and command systems that are applied to military operation can be considered a kind of real-time systems. Real-time systems are tightly combined with national defense affairs such as C4ISR systems (Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems).
Early real-time systems were exploited in a single platform or a closed environment. However, the development of networks and distributed systems changes the operation environment of real-time system. In order to establish a real-time system we have to face the challenges of integrating a C4ISR system in heterogeneous environments.
We have refined the DCAPS into the system that uses original DCAPS architecture and JINI (Java for Intelligent Network Interface) technology. This architecture has been completely conducted in this thesis and feasibly applied to the automation for C4ISR systems.
