Abstract Junior high school students are the subjects of the research. The purpose of the research is to study the relationship among the personality tendencies, the leisure activities, and the academic achievements of junior high school students. Teachers can use the outcome as a reference material to teach their students. Therefore, the main purposes of the research include: 1. Understand and analyze the personality tendencies and the leisure activity situations of current junior high school students. 2. Study the differences among the personality tendencies of junior high school students who have different background variables. 3. Study the differences among the leisure activities of junior high school students who have different background variables. 4. Study the differences among the academic achievements of junior high school students who have different background variables. 5. Understand the interrelation among the personality tendencies, the leisure activities, and the academic achievements of junior high school students. 6. Analyze how the personality tendencies and leisure activities of junior high school students predict the academic achievements. 7. Analyze and induce the outcome of the research. Bring up concrete suggestions to be the reference materials of administrative plans, teachers, and academic related researches. The researcher used the text analysis method and the questionnaire investigation method in this research. Today, the students in Kaohsiung public junior high schools are the sampling range of the questionnaire. The researcher used stratified sampling. The number of the students who answered the questionnaire is 1094. There are 972 valid samples. The research instrument is “The Questionnaire of The Attitudes Toward Life And The Leisure activities of Junior high school students”, which is revised by the researcher. There are three parts in this questionnaire. The first part is personal basic data. The second part is “I.P.C. Personality Tendency Scale revised by Gang Fong Chou”, which is revised by the researcher. The third part is “Leisure Activity Scale of Pae Tsung Tsi and etc.”, which is revised by the researcher. The researcher used spss/pc+ software program to do statistic analysis, including descriptive statistics, single variance analysis, product-moment correlation, and progressive multiple regression analysis. The main discoveries of the research include: 1. As for the personalities of the current junior high school students, the number of the students whose personalities are internal tendencies is the most and surpasses the half number of the total students. The number of the students whose personalities are important other people tendencies is the least. 2. As for the seven categories of leisure activities, the participation degree of motionless appreciation is the highest; the participation degree of self-performance is the lowest. 3. The leisure activities which the current junior high school students often participate in are watching TV, bicycle-riding, ball activities, chatting and forming a party, and watching the movies; The leisure activities which the current junior high school students seldom participate in are laser dances, exciting physical competitions, photography practicum, dramatic performances, and martial arts. 4. As for the sex, there are marked differences. The boy students who are internal tendencies are more than the girl students who are internal tendencies. 5. As for the teaching attitude of the fathers, there are marked differences between the authoritative type and the democratic type. The fathers who are the authoritative type are more than the fathers who are the democratic type. 6. As for the grade, the teaching attitude of the mothers, and the careers of the students’ parents, there are no marked differences among the personality tendencies. 7. As for the participation of the leisure activities, the girl junior high school students who participate in social activities are more than the boy junior high school students who participate in social activities. As for the physical activities, leisure, and leisure total amount, the boy students who participate in these activities are more than the girl students who participate in these activities. On the other hand, there are no marked sex differences among these aspects, including up-to-date entertainments, motionless appreciation, self-performance, and learning new I formation. 8. As for the participation of the leisure activities, the students of the second and the third grade who participate in the up-to-date entertainments are much more than the students of the first grade who participate in the up-to-date entertainments. As for learning new information, physical activities, and leisure, the students of the first and the second grade who participate in these activities are more than the students of the third grade who participate in these activities. As for the leisure, the students of the first grade are also more than the students of the second grade. On the other hand, there are no marked grade differences among these aspects, including motionless appreciation, self-performance, and social activities. 9. As for the number of the students who participate in motionless appreciation and leisure, the junior high school students whose fathers are authoritative type and democratic type are more than the junior high school students whose fathers are laisser-faire type. As for the number of the students who participate in self-performance and learning new information, the junior high school students whose fathers are democratic type are more than the junior high school students whose fathers are laisser-faire type. On the other hand, there are no marked differences between these aspects, including up-to-date entertainments, social activities, and physical activities. 10. As for the number of the students who participate in leisure, the junior high school students whose mothers are authoritative type are more than the junior high school students whose mothers are laisser-faire type. As for the number of the students who participate in physical activities, the junior high school students whose mothers are authoritative type are more than the junior high school students whose mothers are democratic type and laisser-faire type. As for the number of the students who participate in up-to-date entertainments, the junior high school students whose mothers are laisser-faire type are more than the junior high school students whose mothers are democratic type. On the other hand, there are no marked differences among these aspects, including motionless appreciation, self-performance, social activities, and learning new information. 11. As for the participation of leisure activities, there are no marked differences among the junior high school students whose parents’ careers are different. 12. There are differences between the boy students’ academic achievements and the girl students’ academic achievements. The boy students’ academic achievements are better than the girl students’ academic achievements. 13. As for the academic achievements, the students whose fathers are democratic type have better academic achievements than the students whose fathers are authoritative and laisser-faire type. 14. As for academic achievements, the students whose mothers are authoritative and democratic type have better academic achievements than the students whose mothers are authoritative and laisser-faire type. 15. The students whose fathers’ careers are soldiers, public servants, and teachers have better academic achievements than the students whose fathers’ careers are other kinds of careers. The students whose mothers’ careers are soldiers, public servants, and teachers have better academic achievements than the students whose mothers’ career categories are commercial services, farmers, and workers. 16. There are no marked differences among these students who are in different grades. 17. There are marked correlations between the students whose personalities are internal tendencies and these leisure activities, including motionless appreciation, social activities, learning new information, physical activities, and leisure total amount. There are no marked correlations between the students whose personalities are internal tendencies and these leisure activities, including up-to-date entertainments, self-performance, and leisue. 18. There are marked correlations between the students whose personalities are important other people tendencies and these leisure activities, including up-to-date entertainments and motionless appreciation. There are no marked correlations between the students whose personalities are important other people tendencies and these leisure activities, including self-performance, social activities, learning new information, physical activities, and leisure. 19. There are marked correlations between the students whose personalities are opportunity tendencies and these leisure activities, including motionless appreciation, social activities, learning new information, leisure, and leisure total amount. There are no marked correlations between the students whose personalities are opportunity tendencies and these leisure activities, including up-to-date entertainments and self-performances. 20. There are marked negative correlations between the students’ academic achievements and the up-to-date entertainments. 21. There are positive correlations between the students’ academic achievements and these leisure activities, including motionless appreciation, self-performances, and learning new information. In other words, the higher academic achievements the junior high school students have, the more often they participate in these activities. 22. There are no correlations between the academic achievements and these activities, including social activities, physical activities, and leisure. 23. The more apparent important other people tendencies the students have, the lower the students’ academic achievements are. There are negative correlations between the two items. 24. There are no correlations between the academic achievements and the students whose personalities are internal tendencies and opportunity tendencies. 25. All of these causes, including the personality of important other people tendencies, learning new information, up-to-date entertainments, social activities, leisure, motionless appreciation, have the function of united prediction for the academic achievements. Among these causes, learning new information is the best cause to predict the academic achievements. 26. Participating in learning new information and motionless appreciation influence the junior high school students’ academic achievements positively. Participating in up-to-date entertainments, social activities, and leisure, and the personality of important other people tendencies influence the junior high school students’ academic achievements negatively. At last, the researcher brings up some suggestions according to the discoveries, conclusions, and outcomes of the research. The suggestions include three parts: I. The government organization and the institute of the mass medis: 1. Plan and manage the leisure activities effectively. 2. Develop leisure fields, reinforce facilities, and provide participating opportunities fully. 3. Set up leisure counseling center, and reinforce to promote leisure activities. 4. Train leisure counseling teachers and professionals. 5. Promote the traveling services of leisure activities. 6. Provide funds, and conduct related evaluation. II. The teachers in school: 1. Understand the personalities and characters of the students, and teach the students according to their characters. 2. Develop democratic school spirit, and reinforce the students’ characters of internal tendencies. 3. Develop five educations equally. 4. Conduct the leisure education and the activity curriculum, and develop good leisure habits. 5. Develop leisure counseling strategies, and help students plan their leisure activities. 6. Promote leisure services by industrial ideas. III. The parent of the student: 1. Set up correct leisure concepts, and guide the teenagers to participate in the leisure activities correctly. 2. Use democratic teaching method to help the teenagers grow up to be healthy people.
