Abstract
The purpose of the study is to develop The Measure of Creative Thinking In Music(MCTM)for children based on conceptual models of creative thinking in music.
The measure consists of a series of 10 scored tasks divided into 4 subtests and 3 parts: exploration, application, and synthesis. Each part contains 3 to 4 items to measure musical extensiveness, musical flexibility, musical originality, and musical syntax.
The results were listed as follows:
Internal reliability, measure in the form of Cronbachαcoefficients range from .775 to .899. The interrater reliability range from .966 to .980,and test-retest reliability indicates a range between .763 and .861.
Content validity was established with a panel composed of educators, composers, and psychologists. The measure has construct validity, measure in the form of internal consistency, different groups and factor analysis. Factors analysis showed 5 factors significantly. The T-score norms and percentile rank of the MCTM are based on representative samples 107 students in grades 5 in middle district in Taiwan .
There are some suggestions for the practical use and future research of the test.
Keywords: creative thinking in music, musical extensiveness, musical flexibility, musical originality, and musical syntax.
