元件化的軟體開發技術(Component-based software development)近年來已經被廣泛的接受。對物件導向模擬的應用而言，以Zeigler(1990)所提模組化及階層式的系統塑模為基礎，會先開發出多個模組化之模擬元件，組成一個元件庫，再利用這些元件來構建模式。
本研究延續郭曜賑(1999)所提出以UML為基礎之物件導向模擬模式發展程序方法論，再引入Praehofer等人(2001)所提元件化模擬的階層架構，以eM-Plant為例，提出如何利用模擬軟體之基本元件來組成應用元件之方法與步驟，也就是如何針對真實系統先做分割，再以模擬軟體所提供的基本元件組合成為可再利用的模擬元件，其中包括系統模式分析、應用元件分析與設計以及實作階段。
在系統模式分析階段，主要目的在於定義欲構建之模擬系統，包括系統目標、範圍、詳細度，隨後並針對系統的組成結構及行為做了解。應用元件分析和設計階段則將模擬系統做分割，尤其要將控制邏輯和實體設計分開來，以確認要有哪些模擬應用元件，並針對各元件訂定實作規格。最後的實作階段利用物件導向模擬軟體所提供的基本元件，參照應用元件的設計規格實作出應用模擬元件，成為模式構建的基礎元件。本研究隨後以晶圓廠連接式自動化物料搬運系統為例，驗證此發展程序。
