大部分的多變量品質管制圖都是用來判斷製程的平均是否在管制限界內,比如說Hotelling's T^2管制圖.當這些品質特性之間並無相關性存在時,我們就可以用Shewhart管制圖代替T^2統計量來監控這些個別的品質特性.而當相關性存在時,T^2統計量有一個最主要的缺點;那就是當它說明製程已經在管制限界外時它並沒有辦法判斷是哪些顯著因子所引起的.
我們在這裡提供一個能夠判斷當Hotelling's T^2統計量說明製程已經在管制限界外時,哪些因子是顯著的.我的方法是建構在概似比原則上且僅考慮共變異數矩陣已知的情況下來判斷哪一個因子最有可能是顯著的.而我舉了兩個實際的例子與一個模擬的例子來說明.最後,我們再與其它的方法做比較.
