The short pipe impelling method in shaft well for constructing the sewerage network usually utilizes two types of piping diameter, ∮300 mm and ∮400 mm. Conventionally reinforced concrete (as RC) pipe made by Portland type II cement is used. However, corrosion of rebar is still a major concern and shall be considered. Although the concrete cover can provide some corrosion protection, we can’t help looking for countermeasures to prevent the degradation caused by the foul and corrosive environment inside of the pipe and reduction of the pipe life. This study focuses on the evaluation and comparison of various proprieties, economical respects and working conditions between plastic pipe and RC pipe. The stress conditions of plastic pipes made by PVCP, PVCP-PE and ABSP on impelling methods are also studied. Based on the records in certain real construction case applying plastic pipe impelling, interrelations and cross affection among pipe length, impelling force and necessary working time are evaluated. The result shows although the mechanic behavior of plastic pipe is not as good as RC pipe, corrosion will not happen. With respect to endurance, plastic pipe for impelling method is a feasible alternative. Although the initial investment is relatively high, plastic pipe is still worthy to be promoted when we consider the overall efficiency from the extension of the period of pipe replacement.
