心物法首先由Snook及Irvine (1967)應用在人工物料搬運的研究上,至今已有30多年的歷史。這段期間內已有無數篇的研究使用心物法來量測在不同的作業條件下,作業人員之最大可接受抬舉重量(Maximum Acceptable Weight of Lift,簡稱MAWL),並以此為考慮因素之一來設計出抬舉規範或準則。這個方法主要是利用「指示語」告訴受試者在一定的作業條件下,利用自己的感覺強度去調整「可接受」的負重(刺激)。要將人類對刺激的感受量化是非常困難的,由此可見心物法指示語的重要性。Snook 等人(1970)所修定的心物法指示語是目前的標準版本,惟此版所假設按工作量來計酬及並未強調安全抬舉的工作條件,可能會造成其所決定的「最大可接受抬舉重量」過大而造成下背傷害。所以Karwowski等人(1999)提出新的指示語中略去了按工作量來計酬且強調「安全」抬舉,並將所決定出來的抬舉重量稱為「最大安全抬舉重量」(Maximum Safe Weight of Lift,簡稱MSWL),其研究並證實MSWL顯著低於MAWL。
本研究將16位受試者依據他們的一次最大抬舉能力劃分成兩組。將不同指示語分派給他們並且各別獲得MAWL和MSWL。結果顯示MAWL顯著較高於MSWL,這結果意謂著當在進行心物法應用於人工物料搬運作業研究時,心物法的指示語應該改為使用Karwowski版本的指示語。
Snook and Irvine (1967) first adopted the concept of psychophysics in the research of manual materials handling for approximately three decades. Numerous researchers have utilized psychophysics to measure the maximum acceptable weight of lift (MAWL) under different working conditions and MAWL has become one of the major factors to develop guidelines. This technique allows the subjects to adjust the weight lifted (stimulus magnitude) according to their sensation (sensation magnitude) under different conditions using the help from “psychophysical instruction”. Obviously, the development of psychophysical instruction is very important because it is hard to quantify the amount of stimulus magnitude to sensation magnitude. The instruction developed by Snook et al. 1970 is the standard version of using psychophysical approach in MMH. However, the instructions may lead the MAWL is too big to damage the back for the assumptions of piecework rate and it didn’t highlight the importance of safe lift. Karwowski et al. (1999) developed a new edition of instruction which it didn’t mention the piecework rate and emphasize safe lift. They named the weight lift under the new instruction as “maximum safe weight of lift” (MSWL). Their research shows that the MSWL is significantly lower than MAWL.
This research divided 16 participants into 2 groups according to their abilities of one time maximum lift. Different instructions assigned to them to develop MAWL and MSWL separately. The result shows that MAWL is significantly higher than MSWL which means the psychophysical instruction should be changed to Karwowski’s edition when psychophysical approach is applied to manual handling task design.
