Steel structures are trying to be applied into the measure of preventing the debris flow. Because of convenient constructing and easy quality control, the temporary steel structures could be built at the locations in time to prevent and reduce the disasters caused by the expected occurring of the debris flow. The high-strength quenched steel is used to manufacture the temporary structures. Because it is not a commonly used building construction material, there is no proper building code or specifications for high-strength quenched steel. However, it is worth being investigated and used according to its high strength property which is different from some other steels. Primary design procedures of the grid-type dam made of high-strength quenched steel are developed herein according to the previous research and date collected about the debris flow. Some of the factors such as the occurring frequency, basis properties induced force applied to the dam … etc., of the debris flow are put to order and considered in the design work for the proposed grid-type dam. Besides, from the tensile experiment, the primary mechanic parameters of high-strength quenched steel are calculated and the basic limitation for the design of the tensile member and the compressive member are specified. Consequently, the minimum design section of the grid-type dam made of high-strength quenched steel could be determined theoretically by the program SAP2000 software package.
