ABSTRACT
The purposes of this study were: (1) to explore the effects of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on sport performance; and (2) to explore the effects of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on intrinsic motivation. There were 120 male freshmen of Fu-Jen University served as participants of the study. “Sport Achievement Motivation Scale” and “Intrinsic Motivation Scale” were administered to the subjects. Sport performance was defined as 6 dribbling basketballs up the basket and 30 shooting below the basket. The collected data were analyzed by three-way ANOVA and ANCOVA. The results were as follows:
1.The effects of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on sport performance: (1) There was no interaction effect of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on 6 dribbling basketball up the basket. There was difference of 6 dribbling basketball up the basket between feedback type. The participants who were given percentage feedback in the pre-test performed better than those who were not. (2)There were three-way and two-way interaction effects of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on 30 shooting below the basket. (3) In the group of lower sport achievement motivation and with no percentage feedback group, the participants of 20seconds feedback performed better than those of 5 seconds feedback group. In the group of lower sport achievement motivation and 20 seconds feedback group, the participants of no percentage feedback performed better than those of with percentage feedback group. In the group of 20 seconds feedback and with no percentage feedback group, the participants of higher sport achievement motivation performed better than those of lower sport achievement motivation group. (4) The participants of higher sport achievement motivation performed better in 30 shooting below the basket than those of the participants with lower sport achievement motivation.
2.The effects of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on intrinsic motivation:(1) There were no interaction effects of feedback time, feedback type, and sport achievement motivation on interest/enjoyment and effort/importance of intrinsic motivation. (2) There was difference of sport achievement motivation reached the level of significance. The intrinsic motivation of high sport achievement motivation group was higher.
