在全球競爭的環境下,由於產品生命週期變短,越來越多高技術密集產業的製造商在新產品開發的過程,便協同其供應商共同參與設計的過程。當製造商與供應商共同設計產品,其優勢包括整合雙方互補性的資源,降低前置時間、降低產品發展的風險、降低開發成本、增加生產彈性及產品品質等。
過去文獻在討論供應商參與(Supplier Involvement)時,多是以製造商的觀點分析,較少以供應商的角度觀察供應商參與能帶來的效益。LaBahn and Krapfel (2000)認為供應商的技術能力及客戶(製造商)的技術創新能力會影響供應商參與的意圖。對客戶(製造商)而言,供應商的技術能力可以視為資源延伸的一部份;對供應商而言,技術能力則是獲取客戶(製造商)信任的競爭優勢。當雙方合作研發產品時,並非所有的供應商都適合參與,最適配的狀況是供應的技術能力能符合客戶的需求。
本研究以參與政府E計劃廠商的供應商為研究樣本,並且以「技術」觀點,探討供應商參與客戶協同設計的動機及參與程度。
研究結果顯示:(1)「學習導向」及「策略導向」動機高的供應商,相較於動機低的供應商,會有較高的參與程度。(2) 當技術環境不確定性高,「策略導向」動機高的供應商會有較高的參與程度。(3) 高「策略導向」動機的供應商,當技術能力高的時候,會有較高的參與程度。(4) 客戶技術創新能力高的時候,「學習導向」與「策略導向」高的供應商具有較高的參與程度。
