Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET)是由一群可以互相直接溝通的無線設備所組成,而在這個網路上面的節點都是使用電池來當作供電來源,該如何有效的利用電池的能量,延長節點的使用壽命是一件相當重要的課題。在先前路由協定研究裡,建立路由路徑時並沒有考慮路徑上節點剩餘電量的狀態,因此所找出來的路徑可能有著一些節點因為剩餘的電量太低而使得在傳輸的過程中消耗光所剩的電量,或者找到了一條會消耗過多能源的路經。而當路由路徑建立完成後,現行之IEEE 802.11的媒體擷取控制協定 (Medium Access Control Protocol) 使用固定傳輸功率來處理資料的傳輸,也導致功率的浪費。在本論文中我們提出了一個整合路由協定(Routing Protocol)以及媒體擷取控制協定(Medium Access Control Protocol)的方法來節省節點在傳輸時所消耗的能量。在尋找路由路徑的期間,我們所提出的路由協定選擇較省電的路徑在,該如何選定一條路徑是為一較省電的路徑我們設計了兩個評量標準。本篇論文中,節點動態依據本身所剩餘的電池電量動態決定可用之最大傳輸功率,當剩餘的電量較多時就使用較大的功率來發送訊號,反之當剩餘電量較少時則使用較低的功率。而路徑建立完成後,我們提出的媒體擷取控制協定使用功率控制(Power Control)的機制達到更加節省傳輸功率的消耗,我們將原本修改電氣與電子工程師協會(IEEE)所制訂的媒體擷取控制,將原本的訊框加上一個夾帶傳輸功率數值的欄位,達到目的端以及來源端能夠動態調整傳輸功率的目的。模擬的結果顯示,我們所提出的方法可以有效的避免節點消耗電量以及延長網路的壽命。

The mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes that can self-organize without a fixed infrastructure. Mobile nodes in MANET are powered by batteries with limited capacities. How to efficiently utilize the battery capacities is an important issue in mobile ad hoc networks. In this thesis, we concentrated on minimizing the energy consumption when nodes communicate with each other. We proposed a cross layer design between routing protocol and medium access control (MAC) protocol. During the route discovery, the routing protocol chooses the routing paths that consume less energy and avoid choosing the nodes with low battery capacities to relay packets. And, the mobile nodes adaptively decide the maximum transmit power they can use according to their remaining battery capacities. Furthermore, during the data transmission, the MAC protocol performs power control to increase link reliability and further reduce power consumption. The results of performance evaluation show that our proposed scheme can efficiently conserve energy and thus lengthen the system lifetime.
