XML已逐漸成為組織間在網際網路上資料交換的標準，在未來將勢必有大量的資料會以XML格式儲存著。但是，目前組織重要的營運資料，大多還是儲存在具有高成熟度、高穩定性特性的關聯式資料庫系統中。資料分散在XML與關聯式資料庫兩種不同型態的資料格式中，這將會造成組織在資料管理上的困難。
為此問題，本論文中提出了一個介於關聯式資料庫及XML資料之間的轉換系統，其功能在於將符合關聯式資料的 SQL 查詢句，轉換為符合 XML 資料的 XQuery 查詢句，透過查詢語言的轉換，使關聯式資料與XML資料將能彼此交換。於該系統中，本論文定義了對應字典以及轉換模組，對應字典是設計用來記錄關聯式資料與XML資料彼此間的對應關係。而轉換模組則是以對應字典為根據，實作SQL查詢語言轉換為XQuery查詢語言的流程。
實驗證明，本系統對輸入的SQL 查詢句，皆能轉出具相同語意的XQuery查詢句。本論文最大貢獻在於，組織既有的資訊系統在不作任何修改的情況下，藉由本轉換機制，即可將關聯式資料庫中，既有資枓表格所儲存的資料，與XML資料進行交換。

XML has already been the standard of data interchange on the Internet. In the future, a large amount of data will be represented in XML format. However, most of the critical data in organization are still stored in relational database management systems. The different formats between XML data and relational data have incurred the difficulty to manage them in a uniform way.
In this thesis, we propose a Transformation System to facilitate data interchange between XML data and relational data. This system basically transforms an input SQL query into an XQuery query, so that XML data and relational data can be interchanged. In the Transformation System, a mapping dictionary represents the correspondence between two formats to resolve the representational conflicts. A set of transformation rules will then utilize the mapping dictionary for query transformation.
Several experiments are conducted to show the correctness and efficiency of our Transformation System. To conclude, the main contribution of this thesis is to provide data interchange or information sharing between legacy information systems, such as the ERP system, and new applications based on XML, without needing to modify the existing systems.
