Reinforced retaining structures, such as reinforced earth retaining wall, reinforced embankment, reinforced road levee, freeway slope protection, and flyover bridge alternative structure, are widely used in Taiwan. The traditional RC retaining wall is gradually replaced by the fastest developing reinforced retaining structures in construction. Reinforced retaining structures can reduce construction cost, shorten workdays, achieve the balance of soil deposit and extraction, withstand structure deformation, and show aesthetic appearance etc. Taiwan has frequent earthquake. The flexibility of reinforced soil structures can be used as a protection of people’s lives and properties. After introducing the reinforced soil structures for twenty years, the problem of the construction with waste soil which causes the delay of many public constructions is gradually solved. This paper suggests the way to improve the certification procedure of reinforced retaining technique. It can provide the way of quality control to the contractors as well as the customers. It can also provides the basis of future research and the modification of construction codes for the government, scholar, and industries.
