近年來由於老年人口占全體總人口的比例越來越高，使得老人照護的問題逐漸受到重視，然而若家庭中有老人需要照護時，勢必對家庭產生若干影響，特別是有可能會影響到子女的就業狀況，因此本研究嘗試對老人照護與子女就業狀況作一深入研究，以瞭解老人與子女的互動情形，以及哪些因素會影響到兩者間的互動。
本文使用的資料為1996年行政院衛生署國民健康局之「臺灣地區老人保健與生活問題長期追蹤調查系列研究調查資料」，並利用聯立方程式的方法來進行估計，藉以瞭解老人照護與子女就業狀況之間的關係，以及老人和子女的互動情形。
在實証結果方面，首先就老人照護而言，發現子女若有工作，則老人會比較滿意於子女所提供的照護，此可能與子女提供照護時，不僅僅是勞務上的付出，也要在金錢方面讓老人有依靠，而有工作的子女正可滿足老人的需求。其次，就子女就業狀況而言，當老人愈滿意子女所提供的照護時，子女愈可能趨向於選擇就業，因為此時老人比較不會再要求子女提供更多的照護，所以子女可以安心地選擇投入市場或是繼續就業。
由於老人照護和子女就業狀況會相互地影響，因此在老年人口占全體總人口比例越來越高的情形下，政府應該更加重視老人照護的問題，以預防將來因人口老化而產生新的社會問題。

In recent years, the problem of elderly care is gradually more important due to the increasing old- aged population dependency ratio every year. If there is an old-aged person who needs care in a family, it must affect the whole family, especially the children’s employment. The purpose of this article is to assess the relationship between elderly care and children’s employment, using data from the Survey of Health and Living Status of the Elderly in Taiwan. Furthermore, we use simultaneous equations model to analyze the interaction between parents and children. The empirical results show that parents are satisfied with the children’s provision of care when children have work. In addition, the children would like to have work when the parents are satisfied with the children’s provision of care. Consequently, elderly care and children’s employment are closely related. Policy makers might pay more attentions to these relevant issues in the future.
