藍芽(Bluetooth)技術的出現,提供10公尺到100公尺以內、無方向性短距離無線傳輸的另一個選擇。這項訴求低價、低耗電量的無線傳輸技術,主要是用於取代各裝置間的纜線,使用者無須做複雜的設定,就可以輕易連接各裝置。該特性在不久的將來當會被廣泛的加以運用,從大型家電用品、各種行動設備到一枝筆都可能內嵌藍芽的晶片,以達到更多更方便的生活應用。
依照定義我們可以將藍芽所形成的散網(Scatternet)視為一個隨意型無線網路(Ad hoc Wireless Networks)的特例。藍芽規格定義了三種無線電傳輸功率,由於製造廠商初期僅生產Class 3的單項產品,因而各類文獻的探討均以單一種類的裝置為基礎。隨著時間的發展,目前已經有Class 1的產品問世,所以我門可以預見不同功率的裝置在一起運作的情形出現。本篇論文將利用藍芽裝置傳輸距離不同的特性,提出一個混合兩種藍芽等級裝置的散網建構演算法MixBlue,以提高裝置連通率,並建立較小hop count的傳輸路徑。

Bluetooth technology provides another option for the short distance wireless transmission. With low cost and low power characteristics, this technology is mainly used to replace the cables between devices without complicate setting-up procedure. In the near future, we can foresee bluetooth technology to be applied widely on huge equipments, such as electric appliance, mobile devices, etc. and those applications will bring us a more convenient life.
According to the specifications, we may treat the bluetooth scatternet as a special case of Ad hoc wireless networks and bluetooth system defines three classes (Class 1, 2 & 3) with different radio powers. For the last years, bluetooth vendors manufacture Class 3 products only and all literatures of bluetooth scatternet discuss one kind of Class 3 devices. At the present time, Class 1 products have been developed. Therefore, we can anticipate the coming wireless environments with Class 1 & 3 mixed products connected to each other.
Based on the different transmission ranges of Class 1 and 3 devices, this thesis presents an efficient scatternet formation algorithm named MixBlue to combine the two class devices. Our methods will increase the device reachability and set up a routing path with smaller number of hop counts quite efficiently.
