工作記憶已被證實在日常的認知功能上,例如閱讀、理解、字彙的學習、推理、視覺意像等,扮演著極重要的角色,而這些認知功能都是個人在學習時所不能或缺的能力,國外許多研究已經直接證實工作記憶與學業成就間有高度的相關性。本研究希望以「國中基本學力測驗」-台灣用來評量國中學生基本學科能力的統一測驗為例,深入探討工作記憶與「國中基本學力測驗」間的關係。另外本研究也試圖將工作記憶測驗與傳統用以預測學業成就的智力測驗做一比較,看看兩者在「國中基本學力測驗」結果的預測上有何差異。本研究的受試者是來自嘉義地區高級職業學校的一年級新生,測驗方式採個別施測及團體施測兩種方式,首先受試者要進行一對一的個別施測,包括三種記憶廣度作業:操作廣度測驗(operation span task:OS)、閱讀廣度測驗(reading span task:RS)及空間廣度測驗(spatial span task:SS)。智力測驗則是在各班教室中進行團體施測,受試者的基本學力測驗成績由學生就讀學校提供。結果發現不同的記憶廣度測驗作業與不同的學科成就有顯著相關:國文成績與OS得分及RS廣度有顯著的相關,英文與RS廣度有顯著相關,與數學達到顯著相關的是OS得分RS得分,智力測驗則只與數學分數有顯著的相關。在基本學力測驗的預測上,先利用主成分分析法(principal component analysis)萃取出工作記憶測驗中的兩個主要因素─語文工作記憶(主要包含操作廣度測驗及閱讀廣度測驗)及空間工作記憶(主要為空間廣度測驗),再進行逐步迴歸分析,結果發現國文的有效預測變項是語文工作記憶,可以解釋國文成績總變異量的5 %,數學的有效預測變項是智力測驗,可解釋數學成績總變異量的21.3 %,與工作記憶測驗比較起來,智力測驗似乎是一個比較有力的預測變項。
