在缺乏睡眠的情況之下,自身行為的監控與回饋可能弱化,同時主觀上較不容易察覺自身能力的下降,這兩方面都可能導致意外與職業傷害發生率的提升。事件相關(event-relatd)電生理研究顯示錯誤關聯負波(error-related negativity,ERN)/錯誤負波(error negativity, Ne)與N2成分波可作為動作監控的重要指標。ERN代表了錯誤反應的偵測,而N2成分波則代表偵測到不一致的干擾訊息。實驗參與者分別在正常睡眠與經歷一整晚睡眠剝奪的情形下,進行旁側夾擊作業(flanker task)並同時記錄腦波訊號(electroencephalogram, EEG)。參與者於整晚睡眠剝奪後呈現的ERN顯著低於正常夜晚睡眠後,而N2不受睡眠剝奪的影響,這顯示其對錯誤監控的能力變差,而衝突監控能力不變。同時,睡眠剝奪也使得錯誤後的行為調整變差。
Sleep loss may weaken a person’s ability of performance monitoring, but people are rarely aware of it. Unawareness of a reduced performance monitoring ability may increase the probability of occurrence of accidents and work-related injuries. Electrophysiological studies have shown that two of the brain wave components, error-related negativity(ERN)and N2 are related to performance monitoring. ERN reflects the process of error detection and conflict, while N2 component reflects the process of correct detection of incongruent information. The aim of this study was to examine whether these two brain wave components were influenced by sleep deprivation. Participants were required to perform a flanker task following normal sleep and one-night sleep deprivation, respectively. We found ERN amplitude was significantly decreased after sleep deprivation but N2 amplitude remained unchanged. Furthermore, performance adjustment affect errors attenuated under the sleep deprivation condition, while conflict monitoring was maintained. These results suggested one-night sleep deprivation specifically impaired error monitoring and post-error adjustments.
