近年來,區域網路(Local Area Network, LAN)的技術由有線演進到無線,解決了傳統網路佈線的困擾,提供使用者一個隨時隨地使用網路的環境。但隨著網路系統上傳輸需求的逐漸改變,諸如網路電視(Online TV)、網路電話(IP Phone)和網路收音機(Online Radio) 的盛行影響,現今的無線區域網路(Wireless Local Area Network, WLAN)面臨了一個重要的課題-如何在多媒體(Multimedia)的傳輸需求下確保網路的服務品質(Quality of Service, QoS)。
本論文參考IEEE 802.11e D5.0的規範,採用ARM7TDMI實現無線區域網路媒體存取控制層(Medium Access Controller, MAC)之服務品質功能,並假設使用實體層協定為IEEE 802.11a,配合本實驗室已有之IEEE 802.11 MAC工作平台,研製具有服務品質的無線區域網路MAC模組,使其適用於IEEE 802.11a之無線網路。
此包含服務品質之媒體存取控制模組不但可提供增強型分散協調功能(Enhanced Distributed Coordination Function, EDCF)所需之高速控制及運算,亦能提供集團回應(Block Ack, BA)、直接連線協定(Direct Link Protocol, DLP)及IEEE 802.11 MAC協定功能。

Recently, the technologies over LAN has developed from wire to wireless, and has solved the trouble about wiring in legacy networks, to provide the environment that subscribers could use networks anytime and anywhere. Nevertheless, because of the variety of transmission requirement over networks, for examples, the prevalence of online TV, IP phone and online radio, this leads WLAN face to a significant issue nowadays — How to guarantee the QoS over network transmission above the requirement of Multimedia.
This thesis refers to the IEEE 802.11e D5.0 protocol to implement the QoS functions over WLAN MAC sublayer by ARM7TDMI, and we use the IEEE 802.11a protocol as our physical layer. And then the MAC working plane designed by our laboratory has been integrated with our MAC module that supported QoS functions. This module also has the compatibility with the wireless network which suites to IEEE 802.11a.
This QoS MAC module not only provide the high-speed control and operation which may be used in enhanced distribution coordination functions, but also the Block Ack service, Direct Link Protocol service and the legacy MAC functions which are needed in the entire system.
