近年來全球化趨勢增加,企業海外直接投資的比率也逐漸上升,而國際多角化及產品多角化是企業海外直接投資重要的策略,本文探討此兩種多角化策略對績效的影響,另外,多角化能替企業帶來競爭優勢,因此本文欲探討之前績效表現對之後多角化策略投入的影響。企業除了透過多角化策略進入海外市場,其內部的資源也要充足,因此本文以閒置資源當作中介變數,探討國際多角化與閒置資源交互作用對績效的影響。再者,企業為了生產差異化的產品,必須提高技術密集度,因此本文以技術密集度當作中介變數,探討產品多角化與技術密集度交互作用對績效的影響。最後,本文探討多角化策略與績效是否存在三階段的關係,本文研究實證結果如下:
一、國際多角化對績效為正向影響,之前績效表現對之後國際多角化投入為正向影響。
二、產品多角化對績效為負向影響,之前績效表現對之後產品多角化投入為負向影響。
三、國際多角化與閒置資源交互作用對績效為正向影響。
四、產品多角化與技術密集度交互作用對績效為負向影響。
五、國際多角化與績效存在三階段關係(初期為負向,中期為正向,末期為負向)
六、產品多角化與績效存在三階段關係(初期為正向,中期為負向,末期為正向)。
This study revisits the relationship between diversification (both international and product diversification) and performance. Extending from previous research, this study not only examines how diversification affects firm performance, but also further investigates if performance impacts subsequent diversification. In addition, the moderating roles of slack resource that is needed to support international business activities and technology capability which is required for innovate new products are taken into account. Besides linear relationships, this study also examines if three-stage curvilinear relationships exist between both international and product diversifications and performance. Empirical results find:
1.International diversification has a positive impact on firm performance and better performance results in greater subsequent international diversity.
2.Product diversification has a negative effect on firm performance and better performance leads to a lower level of subsequent product diversity.
3.Slack resource positively moderates the relationship between international diversification and performance and the subsequent international diversity.
4.Technology intensity negatively moderates the linkage between product diversification and performance and the subsequent product diversity.
5.The relationship between international diversification and performance exist a three-stage process (initial stage is negative, middle stage is positive, final stage is negative.)
6.The relationship between product diversification and performance exist a three-stage process (initial stage is positive, middle stage is negative, final stage is positive.)
