由於技術的迅速發展,外在環境不斷變化,市場的不確定性增高。企業需要整合資源、事業、或組織的洞察力,以藉由多角化活動的配置與協調整合,進一步創造價值。因此本研究依據資源基礎(Resource-Based View)與動態能力(Dynamic Capability)觀點,探討聯華電子如何適應環境,以及如何發展技術策略,獲致結論作為後續技術策略發展之參考。
本研究由資源基礎觀點、動態能力、產品生命週期,歸納出資源生命週期的觀點,並結合技術策略的演化架構,提出半導體企業的技術策略發展模式。在聯華電子各發展階段的歷程中,可以由資源與能力,評估出核心資源、動態能力,以及資源生命週期型態,形成適當的技術策略,策略影響實際的經驗,而經驗又形成新的資源與能力。反映此一過程,技術策略構面以內容模式作為分析概念,包括技術領域的選擇、技術取得的來源、技術的主從策略。
本研究針對台灣半導體企業中的聯華電子進行個案研究,經由產業報導資料收集,採取資源基礎與動態能力觀點的深入解析,獲致以下結論:
(一) 核心資源的價值會被時間與競爭所侵蝕,企業必須持續導入新的核心資源,配合資源生命週期的階段特性,以獲致持續性競爭優勢。
(二)在某些情況下,核心資源與資源相依現象存在關聯性,並影響資源配置模式。動態能力的建立,會取決於企業的核心資源。
(三) 技術策略的選擇,並不僅限於「產品技術」,以技術領域的選擇而言,新經營模式和新服務技術,同樣能有效轉移投入到產出,以建立企業的競爭優勢。
(四)由個案分析結果顯示聯華電子在技術領域的選擇,技術取得的來源,技術的主從策略等三個構面的技術策略發展模式。
Because of the rapidly developing technology and the externally changing environment, market uncertainty is rising. Therefore, a firm requires its unique insights to turn resources, businesses, and organization into an integrated whole. Those insights are the way a firm creates its values through the configuration and coordination of its multi-business activities. Based on resourced-based view and dynamic capability, this study is to explore how United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) has adapted to the changing environment, and has developed its technology strategy. The analytic conclusions are served as suggestions to be used for future technology strategy references.
This study presents the view of resource life cycle from referencing articles, including resource-based view, dynamic capability, and product life cycle, so as to derive semiconductor firm’s technology development model by combining the evolutionary frameworks of technology strategy. In each developmental stage of UMC, core resource, dynamic capability, and the status of resource life cycle are derived by looking into the range of the firm’s resource and capability, technology strategy, and the actually acquired experiences. Then, these experiences will produce a new resource and capability in the next stage. To reflect this progress, three components of technology strategy, including choice of technological field, source of technological acquisition, and technological leadership are used as the analytical bases.
This case study of our research is UMC. We collect industry reports and a large quantity of data; we make detail analyses based on the views of resource-based and dynamic capability, and obtain the following results:
1. The value of core resource is eroded by time and competition. A firm must continually build new core resources to reflect the characteristics of resource life cycle, and to achieve sustainable competitive advantages.
2. A casual relationship might exist between core resources and the phenomenon of resource dependence. The core resource within an enterprise is determined by dynamic capability.
3. The selection of technology strategy is not bounded on product technology only. A brand-new business model and service technology can bring out an equivalent impact from resource inputs through productions while a firm setups core competencies in its organization.
4. The case study has presented a three-dimension technology development strategy model in UMC: choice of technological field, source of technological acquisition, and technology strategy priority.
