本研究在2002、2003年,採集完整黃腰虎頭蜂巢共15巢並分析蜂巢內部與族群資料。黃腰虎頭蜂(Vespa affinis)巢內越下層巢片,巢房內卵與幼蟲所佔比例越高,族群(colony)成蟲個體數與巢房數目成正相關。黃腰虎頭蜂初期胚巢(embryo nest)出入口朝下,球狀外型出現在第一批工蜂羽化之後,蜂巢出入口大小與氣候(溫度)有關;族群大約在10月中旬產生有性個體,於11月中旬至11月底解體。2003年4月,在台大昆蟲系館觀察紀錄黃腰虎頭蜂越冬蜂后獨自建巢的全部過程。2002養殖2巢、2003養殖1巢黃腰虎頭蜂族群於台大昆蟲系館樓頂,一直到秋季蜂群解體,觀察其特殊行為,以及工蜂與幼蟲的互動。2003年在北部六處地區進行虎頭蜂誘引實驗,得知鳳梨汁誘餌的效果最好,並且在山區,以及在8、9、10月誘引數量最多,10月底還可誘集到有性個體(雄蜂與雌蜂),與飼養的黃腰虎頭蜂族群發育時間一致。觀察中華大虎頭蜂(Vespa manderinia) 蜂群攻擊西洋蜂(Apis mellifera)的合作行為,以及同種掠食的現象。

During 2002 and 2003, this study totally collected 15 complete hives built by Vespa affinis to analyze the data of the colony and the data from the inside of hives.As known, on the lower flat piece of wasp hive, the higher proportion of eggs and larvae lived. The numbers of adult and hive were positive correlated. The entrance of wasp primary embryo nest was forward down. After the first colony of worker emerged, the spherical hive would be appeared. The entrance size of hive was related to the climate (temperature). The sexual individual was occurred in mid October and decomposed between the middle and the end of November. In April 2003, the researcher recorded the process of nesting by a newly mated female( queen ) who after hibernated in the building of Entomology.Two hives and one hive of wasp colony were cultivated in 2002 and in 2003 respectively. The particular behaviors and the interaction between workers and larvae were observed until the colony decomposed in autumn.In 2003, the trapping experiments were conducted in six places around the Northern region. It was found that the best effective bait was pineapple juice. It was also found that in the mountain area and in August, September and October the most wasps were trapped. In October, it could collect the sexual individuals (males and females). The development timing was the same as the cultivated swarm.It was observed the cooperation behavior of the swarm while Vespa manderinia attacking Apis mellifera. It was also observed the predating phenomenon happened in the same species.
