在面對知識經濟下,台灣的政府與廠商開始重視工業設計;而設計除了可促使廠商的創新能力提升,更可進而影響企業長期的成功。因此不論對自有品牌的廠商或代工廠商而言,都希望能以設計來進一步提高廠商的毛利空間。

本研究希望能從組織觀點,去探討企業經營策略與設計策略之間將如何互動,同時以資源基礎的觀點去探究設計部門的核心能力發展。本研究採質化研究法,以個案研究的方式針對五家公司的設計部門進行資料的收集,並輔以相關次級資料來分析。

在經過個案內容探討後,歸納出設計部門的核心能力有以下六種類別:商品企劃能力、構想能力、 流程管理能力、產品實現能力、產品一致性能力,及知識累積能力。而由於經營策略往往依環境需做適當的調整,本研究也發現當經營策略調整時,設計策略亦將就其經營型態重視之設計要素予以修正。對於此一動態的策略調準過程,廠商將針對設計部門的核心能力重新確認出所需的設計能力類型,並予以發展及培養。

而本研究主要的結論為:
1. 設計核心能力之發展與經營型態的演化有關。
2. 產品策略的目標將影響設計策略因子與設計核心能力的發展。
3. 設計單位受重視程度將悠關策略調準(strategic alignment)與設計核心能力的
執行,而影響組織績效的表現。
4. 設計核心能力的建構方式與其組織既有資源基礎相關。
To face the age of the knowledge, both the government and the manufactures in Taiwan began to put emphasis on industrial design. Meanwhile, the industrial design can enables the companies to sustain innovation, which influences their long-term success. Therefore, the OEM or ODM firms will employ the design to improve the profit margin.

This study investigated that how the business strategy interact with the design strategy which is based on the point of view of organization. This study is utilized quantitative research by case study. Focused on the information collection of five design departments within manufacture industry

Through the investigation of case study, this study concludes that six categories with design capability. The six categories of design capabilities were as follows: 1. Product planning capability 2. Concept development capability 3.Process management capability 4. Product realized capability 5. Design consistency capability6. Knowledge accumulated capability. Due to the changes of external environments, the business strategy made the suitable adjustments to correspond. The result showed that when business strategy made adjustments, the design elements within design strategy would be fixed to fit the business strategy. Through the process of dynamic strategic alignment, the firms will identify the types of design capability which they need and develop the capabilities.

Main conclusion of this study is as follows:
1.The development of design capability is related with the changes of
business types.
2.The product strategy will make influence on the development of design
elements and capabilities.
3.The importance of design department will be related with the
executive of design capability and affects the organization performance.
4.The construct types of design capabilities are related with the resource
basement of firms.
