Multimedia messaging service (MMS) is the most versatile messaging service, including all the features and content types of the preceding short message service (SMS). MMS is a ``person-to-person'' mobile messaging concept, that uses store-and-forward technology to transmit messages, which can be used over the high-speed networks such as general packet radio service (GPRS), and universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS), etc. In the MMS environment (MMSE), mobile station sends a multimedia message (MM) and is stored in a waiting queue of the MMS server until the message is delivered, forwarded, rejected or expired. When MM traffic volumes have continuous grown and corresponding degradation in scarce resources, network operators must ensure customers having a certain quality of service (QoS). This paper proposes a delay-bound admission control (DBAC) algorithm to prevent performance degradation due to overload, and then to guarantee delay-bound message transfer. This paper also develops an analytical model to study the DBAC performance in terms of dropping probability and average waiting time. The accuracy of analytical results is confirmed by simulation.
