The purpose of this study is to understand the relationships among sex, age, leaving home or not, how long for leaving home, attachment, autonomy, and life adjustability for college students. The subjects of the present study are 542 students in Fu Jen catholic university.

The results of the present study include, first of all, students from Fu Jen catholic university showed an average level in attachment, autonomy and life adjustability. Secondly, there is no significant difference between sex when comparing at both attachment and autonomy. Interestingly, except no significant difference in emotional-adjustability, female students indicated higher level than male students while talking about life-adjustability, academic-adjustability, social-adjustability and promise- fulfilling,

Age of students with respect to father attachment or mother attachment showed no significant differences. Nevertheless, the time of leaving-home and the total attachment and mother attachment are significantly correlated, but not significantly correlated with father attachment. Furthermore, the older the students were, the better the ability of self-leading and self-achieving would result. The older the students were, the level of their life-adjustability, academic-adjustability and promise-fulfilling would also be superior, but social-adjustability and emotional-adjustability appeared no significant correlations. The longer of the leaving-home period, the quality of the students’ life-adjustability, academic- adjustability and degree-promise would become better, in return, social-adjustability and emotional-adjustability appeared no significant correlations. Respect to attachment and autonomy, if the group of students undergone quality attachments, their ability of self-leading and self-achieving would grow to be better. The better quality of the students’ attachment with their parents, the better the students’ ability of academic-adjustability, social-adjustability, emotional- adjustability and promise-fulfilling would result. According to the quality ability of self-leading and self-achieving, the students would result in a better fit-in in their academic-adjustability, social-adjustability, emotional-adjustability, and promise- fulfilling.

Finally, no significant link between sex and age and mother-side attachment was found. On the other hand, a significant link between leaving-home or not and mother attachment was found. As for the father attachment, sex, age, and leaving-home or not appeared no significant correlations. Students, who are older ages, have higher level of mother attachment have higher level of autonomy. Additionally, students who are older ages, have higher lever of father attachment have higher level of autonomy. In brief, sex and leaving-home or not seemed to have no significant correlations to the level of autonomy. Moreover, sex, age, mother attachment, autonomy, and life- adjustability appeared to have significant correlations between each others. Sex, age, father attachment, autonomy, and life- adjustability also appeared to have significant correlations between each others. Regarding to life-adjustability, a growing up background of leaving-home or not appeared no significant correlation. Importantly, a correlation of the student age toward the life-adjustability could be adjustable through autonomy. More interestingly, through this research, the correlation between life-adjustability and leaving-home or not of the college student could become significant through the quality of attachment and autonomy.
