Recently, companies have increasingly augmented their investments and awareness in social capital in quest of successful innovation through accessing to opportunities and acquiring new knowledge. Based on resource-based view of the firm, this thesis examined the effect of a firm’s external social capital and internal social capital on innovation performance by using data from 204 Taiwanese companies in Bicycle industry. This thesis also explores the moderating roles of external tacit knowledge and market orientation on these relationships. The results show that external social capital and internal social capital are positively associated with innovation performance. External tacit knowledge positively and significantly moderates the relationship between external social capital and innovation performance. Market orientation negatively and significantly moderates the relationship between external social capital and innovation performance, whereas is a positively significant moderator to the relationship between internal social capital and innovation performance.
