Abstract
This research focuses on the influence of the resilience to the adolescence whose parent has been unemployed quite while. The research method adopted here is a “semi-constructed interviews’’, which is based on the contents of interviews with the adolescence who has been through the process of their parent’s failure as well as the impact on the families and themselves. In this study, the researcher investigates the impact on the family as that on the adolescence, which is due to the unemployment of the parent, and it discusses the positive adjustment. As a father always plays the main support of financial resource, the unemployed parent referred to the father in this study. Six interviewers are from the families that the fathers have been unemployed unwillingly. Thus, the conclusion of the research is stated as followed:
1. The impact on the family and the adolescence from the unemployed parent includes:the shortcoming of financial condition , the poverty of materials , the cause of negative feelings , the indifference toward the father , the waning harmony in the family , the poor relationship between parent and kid , the feeble and aggrieved resource in education , being overestimated by the parents ,being indifferent to friends , to keep distant from the relatives.
2. The resilient factors for the adolescence to adjust themselves living with the unemployed family are divided into ten items. They are: “ a positive thinking”, “a positive personality”, “to be a conservative consumer”, “the sympathy with the parents”, “to share the duties”, “to get a part-time job”, “to be self-adjusted”, “to construct a vision”, “the development of concept”, and “the support from the society”.
Based on the result of this research and discussion, it analogized the six interviewers’ common and difference. Thus, the resilience possesses seven characters to help the adolescence adjust oneself with a positive attitude, which are “self-control and self-management”, “the role of leader”, “taking adventage of one’s personality”, “self-adjustment”, “the medium of promotion”, “the power of support”, “an opportunity of learning”. The researcher proposes the suggestions to the adolescence, the families, the schools, as well as the opinions to the counselors, the policy-makers, and the future researchers.
Key words: resilience, family in unemployment, adolescence.
