Abstract
The development of the highway construction has been bringing to completion for the transportation network in Taiwan area at the present time. Therefore, the track engineering is expected to be the mainstream of the mass transportation system in the future. ost the countries worldwide continuously devote themselves to the improvement of the track engineering. The aims of the works mainly focus on the research and development of the track system to accomplish "the high safety, the long service life, the low cost, the low maintain, and the low environmental pollution". This research attempts to study the ballastless track engineering in details, including the planning, the designing, the constructing, the monitoring, and the management. The results of this research can be used to specify more clearly the construction work requirements and the related standards, and provided as the references for the domestic ballastless track design and the field work. The conclusions of this research illustrate that, when the ballastless track technique is adopted in the transportation engineering project, the tunneling construction needs to pay more attention to the seepage and bleeding water with sufficient drainage system for discharging, to the base requirement with firm foundation, and to the base concrete being poured together to avoid the multiple layers condition. The designing specifications for the subgrade must consider the foundation strength under the bed. Besides, the depth within 3 meters from the base of subgrade should not present ground water and soft layers to avoid unexpected problems. As a result, the specifications for design and construction must be clearly described to effectively guarantee the quality and the cost of the ballastless track system to reach the goals of reducing energy, increasing safety, and environmental protection demand. Finally, the goals of sustainable public work management can be achieved with the ballastless track system by taking advantage of lengthening quality service life and avoiding the disaster accident occurring. Keywords: Ballastless track, Sustainable management.
