Ultrawideband (UWB) has recently become one of the most important technologies of Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN), which operates within 10 meters. The main advantage of UWB is high data rate (500Mbps, even 1Gbps, can be easily achieved) in rather low complexity. Besides, UWB offers other characteristics such as, low power, high security, very low interference, and pinpoint positioning and low cost; lending itself perfectly to WPAN application scenarios. The UWB MAC employs that from the IEEE 802.15.3 HR-WPAN Standard. This thesis introduces the IEEE 802.15.3 MAC, designs a hardwired TDMA-oriented MAC architecture and implements the chief TDMA functions- isochronous stream creation and transfer, both in RTL Verilog simulation and Xilinx FPGA verification.
