Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of promoting social
interactions of high-functioning children with autism through Social Play Curriculum.
An alternating treatments design of single subject research method was adopted.
One child with high-functioning autism from second-grade regular class of preliminary school served as subject﹐and two peers with same class participated in the study. This study adopted Social Play Curriculum and Free Play Curriculum as the
independent variable to enhance subject’s social-communicative abilities. Thirty six
play sessions were conducted and each session was held forty minutes for eight weeks. In addition﹐every play session was videotaped and analyzed for numbers and level of social interaction﹐and observation and interview data were also analyzed.

The major findings of this study were as followed﹕
1. The time of subject’s social interactive with the peers were higher in Social Play
Curriculum than in Free Play Curriculum.
2. The level of the subject’s social interactive with the peers was higher in Social Play
Curriculum than in Free Play Curriculum.
3. After his social interactive abilities with the peers were promoted﹐the subjects other abilities were also improved.
4. The improper behaviors of subject’s social interaction were also decreased.
Finally﹐the research provided some recommendations for teaching﹐Social Play
Curriculum and further researches.

Key Words﹕ Social Play Curriculum﹐high-functioning children with autism﹐ social interaction
