1970年代後，全球化、資訊化與網絡化快速穿透整個世界，資訊、人與商品在全球空間中往來流動，以城市作為吸引流動駐留之節點並彼此相互連結，進而形成「城市網絡」，為全球社會經濟與人口變化的具體化代表，也是在經濟全球化的轉化中交互影響過程的表現。此促使「網絡」成為探討全球經濟與各個區域發展消長的重要環節，惟相關研究中卻忽略了城市網絡中城際互動關係的關鍵重要性。另外，隨著經濟全球化的催化，東亞經濟圈漸漸浮現於世界經濟體系之上，漸為最重要且不可忽視的區域，故本研究將以城市網絡及其互動關係的空間概念為基礎架構，探討東亞城市網絡的空間結構概況，及影響城際間互動之關鍵要素，並深入以經濟分析探討城際互動是否為「規模經濟」與是否有「門檻」存在。
以1995-2001年東亞13個城市為範疇，並以人流與航空物流探討城際互動。藉由敘述統計與群集分析，探討東亞城市網絡空間的互動狀況及網絡化概況，應用生產函數Model與引力Model探討影響城際互動之要素，並更進一步地，以Restricted Least Squares的F檢定探討城際互動的規模經濟，及Chow test探討模式結構的轉變以瞭解城際互動是否有門檻存在。
從研究結果發現：一、東亞城際互動與全球體系息息相關，隨時間而有遞增趨勢。區域內部互動約佔30％，且有極化之傾向，即大者恆大、小者恆小，且航空物流較人流有網絡化趨勢。二、影響城際互動要素，主要以「流動總量」、「市民所得」與「國家FDI」是關鍵，以及非量化的「城市發展型態」與「民主程度」；「航線距離」與「語言相似度」影響人流但對航空物流不影響是值得注意之處。另外，在航空物流中，起迄城市的影響不同，又以起點城市的影響較強。三、以市民所得和GDP探討。在規模經濟部分，可得知城市存量（投入要素）對城際互動（產出）為規模經濟，僅有GDP對城際人流是為固定規模報酬；在門檻部分則是城際人流在市民所得有門檻存在，航空物流在GDP有門檻存在。

After 70s, the idea of globalization, information and network influence greatly around the world. Information, people and commodity interact with each other in global space through city which is taken as attraction for staying nodes and link mutually, further becoming “the city network.” It not only represents changes in global economy and population but also represents the process of mutual influence on the transformation of globalized economy. Such phenomenon stirs up researches on the importance of “network” to global economy as well as development or decline of each region.
Furthermore, with catalysis of the economic globalization, East Asia economy is emerging gradually on the global stage demonstrating its increasingly importance. However, most relevant researches overlook the importance of the intercity interaction in the city network. The study will employ the interaction among city networks as a conceptual framework, discussing the spatial structure of city network in East Asia, identifying the key elements among impact on intercity interaction, and analyzing whether it enjoys economies of scale and whether it has thresholds in intercity interaction.
The research will use 13 cities in East Asia during 1995-2001 as targeted study objects to examine intercity interaction by population flow and air logistic. Moreover, based on statistics and cluster analysis, the study will explore spatial interaction and networking of city network in East Asia by using production function model and gravitation model to identify key elements among impact on intercity interaction. On one hand, F test of Restricted Least Squares is used to investigate economies of scale in intercity interaction. On the other hand, Chow test is employed to examine the transition of the modelized structure in order to understand whether there is a threshold existing intercity interaction.


The result of this study indicates the fact as stated below: Firstly, intercity interaction in East Asia closely associates with global system, tending to increase progressively with time. The amount of interaction accounts for 30% in inner region and it inclines to be polarized, i.e. the big one is permanent and big, the small one is permanent and small. Air logistics has more tendency to be networked than population flow comparatively. Secondly, quantitative factors, “total amount of flow”, “FDI” and “citizen income” as well as non- quantitative factors, “type of city development” and “the democratic level”, are critical factors to influence intercity interaction. Moreover, the fact that “the traveling distance of airline” and “similarity in languages” only influence on population flow but not on air logistics is noteworthy. In addition, starting cities has greater influence on air logistic than destination cities does. Thirdly, in economies of scale, city stock (input elements) to the intercity interaction (output) is increasing returns of scale whereas GDP to population flow is constant returns of scale. As for threshold, both intercity population flow and air logistics has thresholds to citizen's income.
