論文提要內容：
本研究旨在瞭解台灣國際觀光旅館業營運績效與跨期生產力變動趨勢及提供旅館經理人作為內部管理之參考。本研究探討下述列五個問題：(1)探討旅館整體運績效及規模報酬為何？(2)探討本國經營獨立型旅館與加盟連鎖型旅館營運績效何者較佳?(3)探討旅館個別(客房部、餐飲部)營運績效為何？(4)探討旅館客房部營運績效與餐飲部營運績效之間關係為何?(5)探討旅館跨期生產力變動趨勢為何？本研究以民國86年至93年台灣地區40家國際觀光旅館為研究對象，採確定區域資料包絡分析模式來評估整體與個別營運績效及規模報酬，以麥式指數分析跨期生產力變動趨勢，使用對比模式來比較不同經營所有權之旅館何者較佳。研究發現：(1) 整體營運績效尚可，三家旅館八年均達最適生產規模報酬；(2) 經營獨立型與加盟連鎖型旅館營運績效無顯著差異；(3)平均客房績效與餐飲績效表現欠佳；(4)有高整體績效旅館未必會有高客房績效及高餐飲績效；(5)平均旅館總因素生產力變動呈現未變動；16家旅館平均總因素生產力呈現成長，1家旅館未變動，23家旅館呈現衰退；(6)中正機場距離及員工數對總體營運績效有顯著影響。

Abstract：
This study is to assess the performance of 40 international tourist hotels in Taiwan in 1997-2004 in terms of managerial, occupancy, and catering efficiencies; to measure productivity growth in the 40 international tourist hotels over time; and to provide some important insights for hotels managers in hotel management. Research questions includes: (1) How does the hotel industry do in managerial performance and the issue of returns to scale; (2) Do individual-owned hotels outperform international chains hotels? (3) How does the hotel industry do in occupancy performance and catering performance; (4) What is the relationship between occupancy performance and catering performance of these hotels; (5) What are productivity developments of these hotels;and (6) to examine the effect of environmental factors on managerial efficiency. Empirical results show: (1) the marketing for lodging services was not operated efficiently and only three hotels experienced constant returns to scale; (2) there is no significant difference between individual-owned hotels outperform international chains hotels; (3) the hotels operated poorly both at the levels of occupancy and catering efficiency; (4) a hotel with a high managerial performance may not perform well both on catering and occupancy performances; (5) 16 hotels had positive productivity changes while 23 hotels had negative productive changes; and (6) the distance to Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport and the number of employees have impacts on the managerial performance.
