在近幾年來,發展出釵h的e-Learning技術的系統或是教材與平台間的標準,大部分的技術都是注重如何增進學習元件(Learning Objects)的重複使用性(Reusable)或是提供與平台(LMS)溝通的方法。SCORM(Sharable Content Object Reference Model)提供了教材(Content)與平台溝通的標準,而IEEE LOM與Dublin Core提供描述Content的標準,但是這些對於Content與平台之間的互通性是不夠的。例如,SCORM定義出如何製作出適合學習者的Content而且可以分享給符合標準的平台使用,但是SCORM對於Content要如何去搜尋取得並且可以存取得到,在這一部份,就沒有定義到。藉由搜尋和存取的方法,才可以達到Content的重複使用性。
雖然目前有釵h去管理Content Objects的系統,但是對與異質的Content Objects的整合並沒有一套正式的標準,也沒有一套可以跨平台的搜尋機制。因此,我們的目標是發展出能夠進入下一個世代的E-learning模式,解決如何去跨平台搜尋與存取異質Content Objects,我們的方法主要是建立一個紀錄各個異質Content儲存體(Repository)的主控台,也就是說藉由收集各個異質的Content Object的Metadata並且解決跨平台的Content Objects到使用者端的問題,使用者可以經由簡單的搜尋介面,輕易的取得想要的Content Objects。
In recent years, a variety of e-Learning systems and interoperability standards have been developed and adopted. All of these were aimed at facilitating the reuse of learning objects, providing interoperability of learning content across delivery and learning management system. Reference models, such as SCORM and AICC, have been proven effective in providing interoperability of learning content across delivery platforms. Metadata standards such as IEEE LOM and the Dublin Core provide an effective way to describe content objects. But content and system interoperability combined with content tagging and management are insufficient. For example, the SCORM framework specifies how to develop and deploy content objects that can be shared among LMS’s and adaptive to the needs of learners. But SCORM does not specify mechanisms for content discovery and access. Without discovering and accessing schemes, reuse of learning objects is difficult to achieve.
Although, several systems have been proposed for managing learning content objects and content repositories, there is yet no formal model on integrating the heterogeneous learning content objects, nor is there a common approach to discovery the content objects across platforms. Thus, our goal is to develop a model for next generation e-Learning to solve the problem of seamless discovery and access to heterogeneous content objects across platforms. We tackle this problem through the creation of interoperable registries of content and content repositories, i.e., by collecting the metadata of heterogeneous content objects and solving the problem of the across platforms. Users can easily access the heterogeneous content objects by using a simple interface.
