With the drastic change of international environment along with the change of governmental policy on two-day weekends, “tourism industry” has turned out to be one industry in the end of 20th century that can serve as the social and economic indicator; moreover, the domestic social and economic stability and the rising living standard for people further gives rise to people’s concerns over leisure life.
Ever since the enforcement of the “two-day weekends” policy in Taiwan, how to make good use of the two-day weekends has become the center of concern for our citizens; under the circumstances that people have changed their concept of tourism and the governmental policy to drive tourism and community construction and lay emphasis on the ecological environment along with the increasing ratio of domestic tourism, the booming development of tourism would give effect on urban development.
By virtue of the retrospection of related literatures and documents, this study takes the dimensions of reconstruction, renovation and maintenance for the tourist attractions in Ji Ji Town of Nanout County damaged during the 9-21 massive earthquake happened in Sept. 21, 1999 as the foundation of case study. Moreover, this research also made use of field trip survey and questionnaire to analyze the survey results in an attempt to delve into the influence of status quo of tourism attractions on urban development upon the reconstruction.
Scope of this research is focused on Pa Chang Wu Chang Temple, Green Tourism Tunnel, Ming Hsing Academy, Ji Ji Rail Station, and Shih San Mu Tsai Kiln, and the study aims to gain insight into the influence of tourist attractions on urban development in the context of status quo of building development, urban traffic, urban sanitary condition, public facilities and status quo of urban development.
In the course of developing its tourism, Ji Ji Town was devastated during the 9-21 massive earthquake. Upon the reconstruction for those tourism attractions that booms the tourism activities in this town, issues caused by the utilization of use, urban attraction, sanitation, and traffic are include the failure of public facilities to comply with the existing regulations governing urban plan that causes negative effects on urban attraction, environmental sanitation, public safety and traffic condition. These issues can serve well for this study to explore into the countermeasures of amelioration and give advice, offering reference to authority concerned to draw up the policy of urban development when launching the tourism projects.
