The construction is knows as a traditional industry which needs government permit to run the business, It is not just highly incorporated with professionism and technology in operation, and also is important for the development of people's livelihood. The construction industry has long been influenced by a great deal of factors in recent years in country, making it recessing from prosperity to declination. As a member of WTO (WTO) since early 2002, the government is obligatory to open the public project market progressively. In such a stringent turning point, the management and expertise of the industry thus face more severe challenges than ever. This research takes aim at: First, probe into industrial structure, industry's trends, and the type and strategies of management to depict overall picture of the construction field. Second, implement 「five forces framework」 of Porter (1980) to inspect the competitionism of the construction industry. Third, take real cases as examples to find out the competition forte and map out competition strategy for the listing company to last survival and take the lead in competition. One of the local listing company is taken as the core for this research, and therefore the related strategies are accordingly made. Extending the case company analysis the potentiality and industrial structure of building the industry are defined as: First, existing opportunities and threats in both construction industry itself and others as a whole. Second, the strength and weakness that the case company features. Third, the key of success factors of the case company. The evidential research concludes as: First, the key of success factors of the large-scale construction firms of Taiwan are: Choose the profitable segment of the market, capability of project estimation and computerization, economic procurement, corporate reputation, financing management, and most significantly, the constant evaluation of company’s competitiveness. Second, the city rehabilitation plan, sea sand housing reconstruction, RMT station joint-development plan, and BOT and BOO construction plan awarded on Turn-Key basis are the prospects for large contractors. The contractors however must enhance their design capacity to enable them to be competent. Third, given the international large construction firms with advanced construction methods and sophisticated construction machines already taking prominent position in the local relevant market, the local construction must exert necessary measures in cope with the challenge. Fourth, the case company adopts the tactics of growth at present that help reaching goals of growth and profits to secure a lasting and unbeatable competition advantage. This research offers two comments on practices for the case company: First, the case company should on one hand adopt the strategy of growth to join in the city rehabilitation plan, sea sand housing reconstructing, MRT station joint-development plan, the large-scale projects of BOT, BOO on the other hand, the case company should cooperate with reputed consultant firms for planning and designing on join-venture basis. Second, the case company should take advantage of reputation and financial mechanism that will result optimistically and consecutively in ensuring lucrative involvements of projects in the long run competition.
