The study of interorganizational cooperation rarely focused on the effect of cooperative parter’s characteristics-- especially parter’s network characteristics on organizational performance. Besides the issue about the effect of network structure, network resource heterogeneity and network experience heterogeneity on network effectiveness is urgently answered for empirical and academic reason as well.
This study, by means of network analysis approach, selects hospitals in Taiwan as the research objects. This study has three purspes. First, this study is to probe the effects of cooperative partner’s resource diversity, cooperative experience diverty and network centrality on organizational performance at individual network level. Second, this study explores how network structure moderates the relations between cooperative partner’s resource diversity, cooperative experience diverty and organitional performance. Last, this study examines the effects of network structure, network resource heterogeneity and network experience heterogeneity on network effectiveness.
Following literature review and theory inference, 8 hypotheses of 11 main arguemnets are presents to test the theoretic framework. By survey design and data collection, 458 questionnairs were sent. Valid returning mails include 75 hospitals. The valid returning rate is 16%.
The results show that cooperative partner’s resource diversity, cooperative experience diverty and network centrality effect negatively on organizational performance. The results also show that the moderation of network structure on the relations between cooperative partner’s resource diversity, cooperative experience diverty and organitional performance is not significant. Beside, the results show that the effects of network structure, network resource heterogeneity and network experience heterogeneity on network effectiveness is significant and positive.
In conclusion, this study find that the effects of density, centralization, network resource heterogeneity and network experience heterogeneity on network effectiveness is significant and positive. Thus, this study comes up with the suggestion that government should encourage hospitals that have different resource and cooperative experience to cooperate with each other and then build high-effective medical system.
