Abstract
The objective of this research is to gain a better understanding of the directors of academic affairs office of elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan, it covers the current situation and relationship between their role stress and work satisfaction. Based on the result of the research there are substantial suggestions, which serve as a map for improving efficient work performance of the director of academic affairs office. In order to reach above mentioned research objective, this research is primarily conducted by using questionnaire survey method and assisting by the actual interviews. The target of the questionnaire survey is based on the directors of academic affairs office of elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan within the scope of survey, and there are 141 schools in Taipei City, 43 schools in Keelung City, 204 schools in Taipei County and 186 schools in Taoyuan County. The total number of the participating directors of academic affairs office is 574, the total returned questionnaire is 466, the returned rate of the questionnaire is 81.2%; aside from 10 invalid questionnaires, there is 455 valid questionnaire survey and has reached 80% of effectiveness. The research tool of this research is invented by the researcher who has conducted this research on “The Role Stress and Work Satisfaction Questionnaire of the Director of Academic Affairs Office of Elementary School”, aside from the “personal data”, the proven survey which has contained “Role Stress Scale”, “Work Satisfaction Scale” and “Open Questions”. The acquired data was sent to statistic software and used the computer statistic software SPSS FOR WINDOWS as a calculating tool in order to run data analysis on percentage, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA analysis and Seheffe’s Post-Hoc comparison.
The conclusion of the research as follows: 1. The directors of academic affairs office of elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan have displayed medium to high degree of role stress. 2. The directors of academic affairs office of elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan have shown medium to high degree of work satisfaction. 3. The directors of academic affairs office of the elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan have demonstrated a significant difference in “overall role stress” according to their age, seniority, education background and work location. 4. The directors of academic affairs office of the elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan have had a significant difference in “overall work satisfaction” in terms of seniority. 5. The directors of academic affairs office of the elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan have revealed a significant negative relationship in “overall role stress” and “overall work satisfaction.” Between the three aspects of roll stress and the five aspects of work satisfaction that also have referred to a significant negative relationship. 6. The directors of academic affairs office of the elementary schools in four north cities and counties of Taiwan in “role stress” which serves as an indicator of significant prediction to the “work satisfaction”, and “role conflict” is among the best example.
According to the conclusion of the research, the following suggestions are provided:
I. Suggestions to the Education Administrations
(1) To utilize current structure for innovation, to organize additional curriculum development leader system (2) To establish a learning organization mechanism, to set up a curriculum development center (3) To integrate information technology (IT) into teaching, to put together an academic administration information website (4) To return to the objective of school teaching, to simplify office written report evaluation (5) To reinforce life-time learning education program, to enforce on-the-job training of the director of academic affairs office (6) To improve educational coaching function, to assist academic administrator’s self-coaching
II. Suggestions to the principal
(1) To encourage effective work performance according to each individual’s specialization, to build a take-turn system of the directors of academic affair office (2) To enforce curriculum teaching activity , to focus on the learning results of the students (3) To create a better learning atmosphere, to provide multi-learning options
