根據IDC[40]出版的「Mesh Networking-The Next Step in WiFi Development」報告指出無線網狀網路(Wireless Mesh Network)技術將成為下一代無線網路技術。本質上而言,無線網狀網路類似於隨機式無線網路,每一個行動節點(使用者)同時也扮演著路由器的角色,藉由位於起始節點與目的節點中間之移動節點來傳遞資訊,並且利用相同方式與那些有連接網際網路之節點做溝通,達成連上網際網路的目的,每個無線網狀網路存在著一個或數個行動節點扮演著網路閘道器的角色,與網際網路相連接。國內研究無線網狀網路的測試實驗大部份使用軟體模擬方式,所獲得實驗數據,往往會因為各種研究所採用模擬軟體與模型而影響到各類不同的網路路由的演算法與協定特性之客觀性;而使用實做實驗平台驗證方式,往往會付出昂貴的硬體成本。目前許多硬體設備逐漸演進至嵌入式、小型化的發展,使得嵌入式系統硬體低廉,平均成本也會比筆記型或桌上型電腦低廉許多。本系統還整合與網際網路相連接,並以異質多接取無線網路整合二種網路:Wireless LAN、GPRS,多路徑路由在傳輸資料路徑的選擇上提供選擇配置多條對外的網路線路,可以使對外使用有線網路骨幹的需求大幅減少,較易將擴大無線網路覆蓋面積,也有利於大企業或校園,尤其較難建構有線網路的地區非常適合發展無線網狀網路。
In recent years, the application of wireless mesh network, a novel wireless broadband access technology, has provided a quite attractive solution for last-mile broadband internet access service and attracted significant attentions. The wireless mesh network, composed of multiple mesh access points and mesh clients, combines both the advantages of ad hoc networks and infrastructure networks. A mesh access point in the wireless mesh network uses an ad hoc mode wireless interface to communicate with other mesh access points, and mesh clients connect to its neighboring mesh access points by using the infrastructure mode.

In this research, a wireless mesh networks experimental platform based on embedded system is conducted to evaluation the performance of commonly used routing protocols in wireless mesh networks, such as OSPF, AODV. However, it still has some problems. Therefore, we propose a multi-gateway architecture and apply the integration technology for GPRS and wireless LAN heterogeneous multiple access networks to improve the performance of the wireless mesh network.
