This study presents the perspectives of English teachers on evaluating resource websites. Evaluation guidelines that proposed in this study are divided into four categories, which include authorship, content, source and update, and human computer interface. Besides, this study also investigates teachers’ professional needs from resource websites when teaching different levels of students.
Participants in this study were English teachers, including 59 elementary school teachers, 34 high school teachers, and 22 university teachers. Data were collected by surveys. Participants were divided into groups based on experience on using resource websites, education level, and age. Research results showed that teachers in this study mostly noticed website content and human computer interface. Furthermore, the results presented the discrepancies of professional needs among teachers of various levels students.
According to participants’ responses, this study provides evaluation guidelines for resource websites. The major conclusion is the website designers should consider the qualified content for audience, and professional information should be based on audiences’ requirements. Suggestions for further study include resource websites should be evaluated by target audience, and a need to examine whether the content could help individual’s professional development and meets users’ expectations.
