Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the differences of the academic performance between choral students and normal students who don’t receive any choral training. The subjects are 491 students from the Tai-Ping elementary school in Taichung. Among them, 61 are choral students and 430 are normal students. The grades of students are from the fourth grade to the sixth grade. The research method of the study is controlled observation survey study.

After collecting the academic data of students and questionnaires of the teachers’, the genders, the grades and the choral students’ length of participation variables are analyzed to probe into the influence of joining the chorus on the academic performance. The statistical tools used are t-test and ANOVA to examine the difference of the subjects’ academic performances including Ethics, Intellectual Education, Physical Education, Teamwork Education, Arts, the means of the five educations above, Language, Math, Sociology, and Science.

The results are as follows:

1. Elementary school choral students perform better in Ethics than the normal students. The progress of the male choral students leads to the situation. The female choral students don’t get any progress. 85% of the teachers point out that the choral training affects the choral students’ Ethics positively.

2. Elementary school choral students gain more scores in Intellectual Education than the normal students. The gender and the grade variables do not affect the results. 85% of the teachers indicate that the choral students make some advance in their intellectual education.

3. Following the training of Chorus, it makes no difference on the results of the elementary school choral students’ and the normal students’ Physical Education. 62% of the teachers who fill in the questionnaire point out that after the choral training, the choral students’ Physical Education performance doesn’t get progress.

4. After receiving the choral training, the elementary school choral students achieve better performance than the normal students in Teamwork Education. The gender and grade variables make no impact on the results. 85% of the teachers imply that the choral training can improve the choral students’ Teamwork Education performance.

5. After attending the chorus, it shows no difference between elementary school choral students and the normal elementary students on Arts. 77% of the teachers imply that the choral training can improve the choral students’ Arts performance. Probing into the possible reasons, the researcher concludes from these observations that the teachers who grade student’s Arts performance without including teacher’s observations of student’s normal performance such as students becoming more active or having more poise…etc. make the Arts of the choral students no progress.

6. Elementary school choral students show better performance in the means of the five educations which are Ethics, Intellectual Education, Physical Education, Teamwork Education, Arts than the normal students. The gender and the grade variables have no impact on the results.

7. Attending the chorus makes no difference on Language between the elementary school choral students and the normal students.

8. After accepting the training of chorus, the elementary school chorus students’ Math performance is better than the normal students’. The gender and the grade variables do not affect the results.

9. Following the training of Chorus, the elementary school choral students’ Sociological performance becomes better than the normal students’. The gender and the grade variables do not affect the results.

10. The scores of the Science of the elementary school choral students are better than the normal students’. The improvement of the female choral students leads to the situation. The grade variable makes no impact on the results.

11. After attending the chorus, the male choral students show better performance than female choral students in Teamwork Education, Language, and Math.

12. After attending the chorus, the fourth grade choral students show better performance than the other grade choral students in Math.

13. Following the training of Chorus, it makes no difference between the choral students who attend one semester and who attend two semesters to their scores of Ethics, Intellectual Education, Physical Education, Teamwork Education, Arts, the means of the five educations above, Language, Math, Sociology, and Science.

14. According to the findings of the research, the researcher proposes some suggestions about the application of music education and the future studies.
