在講究形體美感的工業設計活動裡,視覺式的思考方式尤其常用於創意發想階段的過程中。數位媒材是有別於傳統媒材的新興設計輔助工具,設計者透過電腦建構虛擬維度空間中的立體圖形,能快速、完整地表示其概念,而達到溝通、討論的目的,並且有助於概念評估的進行,也因此被認為對傳統媒材的設計思考產生多方面的衝擊。由於過去視覺思考的相關研究中,大都以傳統手繪工具作為研究的媒材,因此本研究探討「設計構想發展階段中運用數位媒材對視覺思考行為的影響」,希望了解設計人員使用數位媒材進行構想發展時,所運用的視覺思考模式、設計人員對數位媒材特性的運用與其視覺思考模式間的相關現象。
本研究進行一設計任務實驗,藉由受測者以數位媒材執行設計案,並輔以其後對設計過程之影音回溯紀錄,對實驗所獲得資料進行編碼與分析,探討設計人員進行設計活動時運用數位媒材功能屬性與視覺思考行為間之相關性。研究結果顯示,較常運用數位媒材中描繪方式及系統功能這兩項功能屬性的受測者,其視覺思考出現檢視與轉移行為的頻率比較高;較常運用物件操作這項功能屬性的受測者,其視覺思考出現操控行為的頻率比較高;而較常運用數位媒材中屬性設定這項功能特性的受測者,其視覺思考出現轉移與具體化行為的頻率比較高。此外,受測者運用數位媒材功能屬性的特性可分為「頻用物件操作與系統功能型」、「少用物件操作與系統功能型」及「各項功能均衡使用型」三類。「頻用物件操作與系統功能型」的受測者之視覺思考行為偏向「操控重組思考型」;「少用物件操作與系統功能型」的受測者,其視覺思考行為偏向「垂直修改思考型」,而「各項功能均衡使用型」的受測者,其視覺思考行為則偏向「水平轉移思考型」。
Among the industrial designing activities which were particular about the sense of beauty in shape, the visual type of thinking method is frequently applied on the process of creative thinking phase. Digital media is an emerging design-aid tool which is different from the conventional media, through the 3D picture in the virtual dimension that constructed by computer, designers are able to express their concept rapidly and completely, and further to achieve the purpose of communication and discussion. In addition, it is also helpful to proceed with the concept evaluation, thus digital media is thought to bring multilateral impact on the design thinking of conventional media. According to most related researches of visual thinking in the past were used the conventional freehand tools as the research media, thus this paper is studied and probed into the “Influence of Applying Digital Media on Visual Thinking Behavior within Developing Phase of Design Concept”, and hope to understand the visual thinking pattern that designers applied on their using of digital media to conduct the concept development, as well as to understand the related phenomenon between the application of digital media’s characters and its visual thinking pattern for designers.
Through these testees who were using the digital media to implement the deign projects and aiding with the video and audio retrospection record of the design process, this paper conducted a task-designed experiment on the data that obtained from the experiment to proceed the coding, analytic and probing process for the correlation between functional attribution and visual thinking behavior of digital media that applied by designers while they are carrying out the designing activities. The research results showed that the testee who were frequently applied digital media’s functional attribution of descriptive method and system function, the frequency of displaying timescan and transfer behaviors from his/her visual thinking was higher; as to testee who were frequently applied the functional attribution of object manipulation, the frequency of displaying manipulation behavior from his/her visual thinking was higher; and in terms of testees who were frequently applied digital media’s functional character of attribution setup, the frequency of displaying transfer and abstract behaviors from his/her visual thinking was higher. In addition, the characters of functional attribution for testees used the digital media can be divided into 3 types, such as “Manipulation and System Function Type for Frequent-use Object”; “Manipulation and System Function Type for Rare-use Object”; and “Balanced-use Type for Each Function.” The visual thinking behavior for the testee of “Manipulation and System Function Type for Frequent-use Object” is partial towards the “Manipulative Recombination Thinking Type”; as for the testee of “Rare-use Object Manipulation and System Function Type”, his/her visual thinking behavior is partial towards “Vertical Modify Thinking Type”; and in terms of the testee of “Balanced-use Type for Each Function”, his/her visual thinking behavior is partial towards the “Horizontal Transfer Thinking Type.”
