本論文係以小波理論的Haar函數為基本，經由影像分解後所得到的影像特徵，作為影像比對之依據，應用到彩色影像諮詢上，進而發展出一套以Borland C++ Builder為主的「彩色數位影像諮詢系統」。
首先介紹小波理論的原理與特性，再介紹小波理論中的基礎– Haar函數，接著導入影像模式至二維矩陣中，將影像內容先經由Haar wavelets分解製成影像資料庫的諮詢依據檔，針對欲尋找之影像進行簡化處理後，即可進行影像特徵的諮詢，迅速從影像資料庫中找出相近的影像圖片。此諮詢系統之諮詢模式，係以手繪之略圖或掃描之影像為輸入之諮詢對象，經過比對搜尋後，找出最相近的十張影像圖片，呈現在螢幕上，供諮詢者參考。
本論文最終目的在提供快速搜尋相似圖片的軟體功能，並可建立諮詢影像資料庫，進一步可提升從大量影片中搜尋相似影像圖片的效率，並可節省尋找相似圖片的人力資源。

The main purpose of this thesis is to develop a “Color Digital Image Query System.”This system is based on the wavelet theory and uses the Haar function as the main basis. The image characteristics that are derived from the Haar wavelet transforms will be used as the comparison basis. The Borland C++ Builder is used to construct the user interface and graphic interface for this system.
The theory of Haar wavelet decompositions (transforms) will be introduced first. These decompositions will be applied to the two-dimensional image to derive the corresponding image characteristics. According to the image characteristic the aimed image will be compared to the images in the database. Then ten images that are most similar to the aimed image will be represented on the screen for reference to the user. The aimed image can be a rough sketched picture or a scanned picture.
The final goal of this thesis is to provide a software that can search for similar pictures and establish a query image database. Furthermore, it can promote the searching efficiency for the similar images from numerous pictures, thus saving time and needing less human resource to search for the matching similar pictures.
