A machine vision system was employed to evaluate the values of color-bar resistors. One fourth watt four-color resistors and five-color resitors were used in this study. The edges of the color bars of the resistors were first located by using the Schmitt trigger for the red, green and blue frames. Then, the edges obtained from these three frames were combined by using the AND operation to acquire the location of the color bars. The standard colors for each color bar were obtained from 30 training samples for the four-color and five-color resistors, respectively. The pixel value which occured most frequently was considered as the standard color. The standard colors included the values of hue, red, green and blue. Fifty samples were employed in the testing procedure for each kind of resistors. The successive indentification rates were 86% and 78% for the four-color resistors and five-color resistors, respectively.
