The Study of Turnaround Strategies for Corporations Under Depressive Environment-The Case of The Taiwan
Woodworking Machine Industry

Abstract

This literatures, corporate crisis, corporate turnaround and strategies are defined. A conceptual framework is then established. Second, the framework is empirically tested. Taiwan''s wood machinery industry was exemplified to investigate the change strategies of successful companies in a turnaround environment, which were compared with those of the failing companies. From these analyses, the internal and external factors of crisis, the impact of crisis on corporate operation and corporate corresponding strategies were revealed. In the process of turning around, the companies fulfilling basic requirements were more likely to succeed. For the successful companies, on the perspective of technique, imitation and technique development played a part. In terms of product, more product categories were developed in the successful companies. For marketing, the successful companies were more likely to engage in exhibitions. Additionally, the effects and their magnitudes were almost the same for both successful and failing companies, indicating the homogeneity among companies in the industry of wood machinery.
