One of the maim purposes of this study is to analyze the effect of outward FDI of the Taiwanese electronics industry on the export of its parent firm in 2002. The other purpose of this study is to utilize the above-mentioned sample to make further analysis in order to distinguish the results of FDI in different areas of the world.

The sample of this study comes from Taiwan Economic Journal. This research made use of the least squares method (OLS) to find out the impact of variables on the export of the parent firms, and utilized SPSS software as the tool of the empirical model.

The empirical results of this research show that if a given firm carries on FDI, then it will cause a positive impact on the exports of the parent firm. Furthermore, the larger a give firm’s size, the older a given firm’s age, the greater the degree to which a given firm is capital intensive, and the more a given firm invests in R&D expenses, the larger the export of the parent firm, but the average wage does not significantly increase or decrease the exports of the parent firm. When a given firm carried on FDI in China, it substituted the export activity of the parent company instead.
