The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between counselors’ internship experiences and professional development. Participants in the study were counselors who had completed their internship and who in internship. A total of 169 questionnaires were sent off, 129 responses were received, and 127 effective samples were analyzed. Instruments used in the study included Internship Experiences Assessment Questionnaire and Counselor Interns Professional Development Assessment Questionnaire. The data were analyzed by the procedures of descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlation.
The results of the study were as follows:
1.The most satisfactory internship experiences of counseling interns were professional practical learning, the least were internship environment.
2.The counseling interns thought that the most important professional development was crisis management, the least important was mental health service. Yet they were the most proficient in mental health service, the least proficient in crisis management.
3.The counseling interns who had practical work experiences were more proficient in professional development than who had no practical work experiences.
4.The more satisfied internship experiences the counseling interns had, the more proficient in their professional development.
5.The counselors’ internship experiences were significantly positively correlated with professional development proficiency.
Finally, according to these findings, some suggestions for internship training sites, counseling interns, and future researches were proposed.
